Semiconductor companies in Korea have played a key role in transforming a country once known for steel and heavy industry into the hi-tech hub of Asia. A less visible component of the sector is the support and technology infrastructure required for manufacturing these products. For every company manufacturing DRAM, there are at least a dozen supplying everything from the raw materials to the actual manufacturing equipment.
DSS's products have often been ahead of their time. "Many times we will develop a product, and then have to show our customers what advantages it will bring to them," comments Dr. Moo Ryong Son, its president . The company is the result of a joint venture between Daesung Group of Korea and Air Liquide of France. The combination of the technological know-how of Air Liquide with the operational expertise of Daesung has proved an excellent mixture. "As a result of our extensive investment into the specialty gas sector, DSS is equipped with the technology to compete anywhere in the world in terms of product and quality," Dr. Son continues. "In order to survive strong competition, we will continue to develop new technologies and expand our presence abroad." With the rapid growth of the market in China and the current rebound of the Asian region, it appears that Daesung Sanso has its work cut out for the future.
