The real properties of success

Sunrise has distinguished itself among the many property developers in Malaysia not only for its in-demand high-end condominium units but also for the substantial yield the purchase brings to the owner's investment. As it looks overseas, the company has also started to apply this same business strategy.

Throughout its 35 years of operation, Sunrise has received numerous awards for its business acumen. One recent honor befell its CEO, Dato' Michael K C Yam, when he was named Malaysia's CEO of the year 2002.

"The award is a mark of recognition not only for me personally, but also for every employee in the Sunrise family," says Yam. "A general is only as good as his soldiers."

In the same year that Yam received the above-mentioned award, Sunrise was selected as Best Employers in Malaysia 2003 Award, a testament to the quality of its human resources. Yam took the helm at Sunrise in 1997 and made it his first priority to strengthen the company's core activity - property development in Malaysia. Since then, he has broadened the company's horizons globally to include operations in Johannesburg, Dhaka, Sydney, London, and Hawaii.

"We are a Malaysian company with international ambitions," he explains. Sunrise's success can be attributed to the company's emphasis on quality in all aspects of its business, its focus on customer service, its reputed after-sales service and its dedication to creating lifestyle excellence.

The company's flagship development - Sunrise Mont' Kiara in Kuala Lumpur - is an extremely successful global township that incorporates luxury condominiums with extensive leisure facilities, an international school, and a commercial plaza. This development boasts a high population of Japanese nationals - who make up nearly 50 percent of the total residential population.

The company's strong brand name has continued to attract attention from local and international institutions alike but Sunrise knows its key strategy is keeping clients satisfied.

"Branding and building awareness is always important but a lot of our efforts are concentrated on what we currently possess: namely, 50 percent repeat customers. Customer retention is key. Everything we build breathes quality and always remains consistent," says Yam.

Yam's on-going mission is to foster the reputation and the relationships the company has built over the decades and to remain one of the leading condominium developers in Malaysia and beyond its borders.
