Clouds of dust, jarring vibration and excessive noise. Demolition sites are infamous for disrupting local environments. By offering efficient, powerful products, one company in the Netherlands is optimizing onsite productivity and reducing demolition time on sites throughout Europe.
With a history spanning over seven decades, Nippon Pneumatic (NPK) set up its European operations in 1978 to expand its sales channels in the European community and beyond. "We are a fully-owned subsidiary here and distribute to the whole of Europe and North Africa," says president and managing director, Kazuchika Hirota. "We have the highest market share in the Netherlands and we are proud to consider ourselves a European company." As the world's largest producer of hydraulic demolition equipment, NPK provides a wide range of products to meet the demands of today's demolition work. The crushers, crunchers, hammers, grabs and other products designed to attach onto excavators are manufactured mainly in Osaka, Japan. Technicians there are continuing to develop new technologies such as the standard integrated booster system. When the arms of the crusher or cruncher meet resistance, whether it be concrete or steel, the hydraulic booster system is automatically activated and provides three times more crushing strength compared to competitive crunchers without a booster system. NPK is referred to in the industry as being "unique in technique" and understands the importance of onsite productivity in the demolition industry. The performance-enhancing features and innovative designs are only one part of the NPK approach to the market. As demolishing large structures can take its toll on equipment, after-sales service is another key part of customer satisfaction. "Due to the nature of the work involved, 90 percent of our service support involves repair," explains Hirota. "Should a problem occur, we send a service technician out immediately, and if a replacement product is required, we send it out." NPK Europe is furthering its activities in the region and beyond. To this end it has acquired a manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic. Regarding the company's plans to expand this facility, Hirota adds: "In the next five years, we expect Europe to produce 20 percent of the company's products, compared to the 3 to 5 percent we manufacture now." Innovation and quality have always been important for NPK, and the company has a wealth of knowledge and technical expertise providing continuous support for these key aspects of the business.
