A sporty brand in the great outdoors

A significant amount of Japanese corporate investment arrived in Canada in the early 1970s. Consequently, 2003 was a year in which many Japanese firms celebrated their 30th year in business in Canada . Suzuki Motors Canada, which began its operations in 1973 for the distribution of motorcycles, was among the celebrants.

“2003 was a great milestone for the company, showing our history, growth and success in Canada,” explains Yoshinobu Abe, president of Suzuki Canada. “We focused our celebration on caring for our customers and enhancing solidarity among our associates at Suzuki.”

Much of Suzuki’s success here has been due to the characteristics of Suzuki cars, SUVs and motorcycles. “There is currently a higher demand for compact passenger cars in Canada than in the US,” says Abe. “Since Suzuki is generally a manufacturer of smaller vehicles, I feel there is great potential for Suzuki to make further strides and penetrate deeper into this market. Our products are tailor-made to promote enjoyment of an outdoor lifestyle, so Suzuki vehicles are a great fit for the Canadians’ way of life.”

Suzuki Canada’s national headquarters are located in Richmond Hill, within the Greater Toronto Area. The company also operates regional offices in Montreal and Vancouver. It is looking to expand to more than 100 auto dealerships over the next few years.

Abe says: “Our vehicles have changed greatly over the last decade. Today’s Suzuki vehicle is more refined, higher quality and sportier,” says Abe. “We want to stimulate a greater interest in our brand and make it appeal to younger generations.”
