Sanyo knows the South African market very well. Its ubiquitous products have been in South Africa since the 1960s and in 1997, Sanyo reinforced its presence by setting up a directly-owned subsidiary in 1997.
The company is keen to grasp the local market firmly and Kamei sees positive signs everywhere. "The increase in the middle class income in black communities, a well-maintained Infrastructure, an economically and politically stable country, the introduction of government projects such as the Shilowa Express (the high speed rail linking Johannesburg with Pretoria), access to other regions of Africa and growing tourism from overseas are areas that will positively affect both South Africa as well as Sanyo's operations here," he affirms.
