Greener pulp for better, cheaper paper With a history dating back to the 17th century and more than three decades of activities in Japan, Rottneros has become a world-leading independent supplier of high quality paper pulp produced through traditional environmentally-friendly processes. Rottneros’ president and CEO, Lars Blecko, says: “As pulp can be very much a commodity, we try to concentrate on the areas where we can be the strongest. Concerning the process, we have taken old techniques and made them competitive by making them cheaper.” In the information age, paper remains society’s preferred communication medium. And paper made from pulp fibers separated by entirely mechanical means -- a traditional technique now thoroughly modernized by Rottneros -- is far more environmentally sound than that produced through chemical processes. In fact, the mechanical process is cleaner and requires only half the amount of raw materials. Simply put -- half the amount of forest. Today, nurturing the company’s growth is Blecko’s main priority. He intends to continue developing the company’s markets, especially in Asia. “We have maintained our independence and business model by specializing in our unique way of developing the product,” he remarks. “Our pulp can produce great paper at a lower cost. The Japanese are recognizing the benefits of mechanical pulp. They can profit through cooperation with us.” “We have great quality, great resources, and great customer relations,” concludes Blecko. “We are a stable and profitable company with low risk and tremendous potential. Those who deal with us can feel secure that they have a good partner.”
