A legend of success

From the small village of Ruemlang just outside Zurich, Kimoto provides sales and product distribution to its strategic markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

From its beginnings in 1952 as a producer of high precision photographs for mapping, Kimoto has since evolved into a developer of high quality specialty functional films for application in the electronics, digital imaging, prepress and the graphic arts industry.

The company is based in Tokyo, Japan but it has technology subsidiaries in the US and offices in Taiwan and China. And to meet the growing demand in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, company owner Ujihito Kimoto established Kimoto Ltd. in Switzerland.

“One of Mr. Kimoto’s main reasons for setting up in Switzerland was because he had a special place in his heart for the country. Logistically, being in the center of Europe, he found it a good location for working with and distributing to our EMEA markets,” explains Kimoto Ltd. General Manager David Cortada

Cortada has been with the company for fourteen years and knows its success from the bottom up. He first started by processing orders and then worked his way through sales and marketing before being promoted to general manager. His experience in many departments has given him first hand knowledge on how to run Kimoto successfully but he is quick to point out that the success belongs to all 22 employees.

“Here at Kimoto”, he stresses, “we are a team. Each employee plays a very valuable role in achieving the success we are experiencing today.” Last year, Kimoto reported nearly $16.4 million

The company’s growth is attributed to its product reputation and strong team in Switzerland. “Kimoto is known for reliable high quality products. The name itself has an excellent reputation,” says Cortada.

With its ISO 9001 certification and multimillion dollar comprehensive manufacturing and advanced research and development facilities, Kimoto is leading the way in coating technologies. The Kimoto product portfolio includes various product lines for polyester films, pre-press accessories, and inkjet media.

Today the company continuously expands its activities and new product lines to meet the demands of the rapidly growing digital imaging market. The new Mimaki Printers JV3-160 & JV3-250SP are adding value to the digital printing market with low price and low production costs as they are printing on non-coated substrates.

Backed by a motivated and strong team, Cortada’s energy and infectious spirit resonates throughout the Kimoto office. The team is on their toes to stay on top of the demand for Kimoto and Mimaki products.

Cortada highly values each person’s contribution to achieving the companies’ goals. As he sits at the helm of the thriving subsidiary, his formula for success is simple but sure. “Being an international company operating in Switzerland, makes us happy and proud of what we are doing. We sell excellent products and we believe in them.”
