Thai-Japanese friendship: a catalyst for success

Mektec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand) has continuously upheld its reputation for quality and service. Over the years, the company’s achievements have been the result of strong team work, employee training and the relentless pursuit of quality. New expansion plans will soon be set in motion, but at the very heart of the company is a smoothly functioning management team partnership with a strong enthusiasm for people.

Used in the electronics industry for computers, printers, cameras and mobile phones, the flexible printed circuit boards produced by Mektec have grown to become trusted by Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and non-HDD customers both in Thailand and around the world. Mektec Thailand’s managing director Yoshiyuki Senda says: “In 1995, we established our operations in Thailand because our customers decided to move into the country. As our clients demand more, our policy is to serve our customers better and be closer to them.”

Having already met local demand in Thailand, Mektec has also expanded to Taiwan, the US and Germany, among others -- bringing world class technology to the electronics industry.

“We lead the way in flexible cable technology and our engineering level is extremely high,” says Sathid Jitjongruck, the Thai company’s general manager and director. “We are number one, both technology and production-wise.”

Both Senda and Jitjongruck admit that their friendship and smooth working relationship has enabled them to build Mektec Thailand into the company it has become today. “We have known each other for over 10 years and continue to work together very closely. We have learned a lot from one another,” says Senda.

With only four Japanese staff and 2,500 local employees, knowledge transfer and local know-how has led to a highly skilled workforce. “This factory is run by a young staff of local people. It has always been this way; local people have the local knowledge,” stresses Senda.

The strong Thai work ethic is also one reason he believes that Thailand will remain the choice destination for foreign companies: “Despite the threat of China, I believe everyone will return to Thailand.”

As the company looks forward to penetrating the automotive market, new opportunities beckon. “Watching to see which direction customers are going is vital,” Senda adds. “To keep on successfully in this business we must educate our people to ensure Mektec remains the acknowledged world leader in the production of flexible printed circuit boards.”
