Reinventing the wheel

Consumers and companies around the world can not seem to get enough of Baden-Württemberg's products. The region's manufacturers occupy prime positions in almost every field, and in the league table of exporters the state is second to none. So what makes this region so special? A breath of fresh air

The acquisition of a majority stake in Japan's Tennex Corporation has catapulted Stuttgart-based piston and engine component producer Mahle to a top position in the international filter systems market. With nearly 2,000 employees, annual sales of $420 million and seven production plants across Asia, the US and Europe, former Nissan Group subsidiary Tennex made an outstanding addition to Mahle's filter systems department. For Dr. Heinz K. Junker, consolidation is the key to world leadership in the air-filter sector.
